Frequently Asked Questions

Is your pottery food safe?

Yes. Each of the glazes used are lead-free, non-toxic and have been leach tested.

Can I put it in the dishwasher?

Absolutely. Though I would always recommend hand washing as it helps to extend life of a favourite piece, they can handle the dishwasher just fine.  The stoneware clay that I use has a low absorption rate which makes it able to handle submersion in water, and the glazes have been tested in the dishwasher.

Are all of the dishes and mugs microwave safe?

Yes, they will be completely fine in there.  Keeping in mind they do prefer to have a gradual change in temperature (just like glass), it would not be recommended placing a dish in the microwave that had just come out of the fridge, but a room temperature piece will be perfectly ok.  They can get quite hot, just as your other ceramic dishes do, so please be careful when taking hot dishes out of the microwave.

Are the pie dishes and casseroles oven safe?

Yes.  Fired in the kiln to 2240°F, these pieces can handle hot oven temperatures.  Please note, that like glass, pottery can crack if exposed to sudden temperature changes.  Always remembering to introduce heat and cold gradually, a dish at room temperature will be perfectly safe to place into a preheated oven, but avoid putting a dish into the oven that has just come out of the refrigerator, or rinsing a hot dish in cold water.

When I order an item, how closely will it resemble the product photo?

It is important to remember that each piece of pottery is made by hand, one piece at a time, and as such, it will be guaranteed to vary slightly.  The sizing of each piece will fall into the range specified on the product page, but the character of each piece will be different, as it was intended to be.  Designed with the mindset of imperfect perfection, this can be reflected in the varying texture of each piece; leaving the texture on each piece, allows the glaze to break and pool, retaining the organic aesthetic of a hand made piece.  The glazing is also done one piece at a time, dipped by hand, creating different lines, angles, and coverage on each piece.

Can I contact you if I have a question about an item in your shop?

Please, please, please do.  If you have any questions at all, would like to know more information than what’s provided, or simply what to talk to me about a piece before committing to a purchase, please feel welcome to email me.  Online ordering can feel a bit cold sometimes, and well, sometimes it’s just a bit nicer to talk to the human on the other end of the line.  You can use the contact page on the website, or email me directly at [email protected].
